This morning I received an error I haven’t seen before when trying to open the console of a VM in our ESXi 5.5 environment…. “The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect.”
There are two ways to fix this. The easy way is to reboot your computer 🙂 If you would want to avoid a reboot you can do the following:
Close out all of your VMware vSphere Clients and open Task Manager. You will want to make sure all processes named “vmware-vmrc.exe“, “vmware-remotemks.exe“, and “vpxclient.exe” are not running. If they are go ahead and end all those processes.
Now open up the vSphere Client, console should now work:
Comment below and let me know what worked for you!
Awesome..definitely the vmware-vmrc.exe for me.
doesn’t work on me…
Make sure all processes are killed to ensure the hung one is closed otherwise you will continue to get that error
Worked a treat for me – thanks for posting!
didn’t work for me. tried everything. apparently also caused by antivirus software blocking processes, but i tested with no a/v and still an issue
AWSM it fix the issue..
reinstall client did the fix for me
I got the console session after killing the processes but somehow the servers lost the Domain..
Cannot login with Domain Admin accoubt gives error, No Logon server found..
Have to unjoin and join domain requires 2 reboots..
Can anyone tell why it happened or how to avoid this in future?
thanks and great
Works!
Nope, uninstall and re-install for me is the only fix…
I had this problem with vSphere Client 5.5.0.6389. There were no vmware-*.exe processes running in Task Manager.
What worked for me was going to Programs and Features > VMware vSphere Client 5.5 > Uninstall, then reinstalled it from VMware-viclient-all-5.5.0-3024345.exe. I have been playing with Hyper-V lately so I expect that broke something required by vSphere Client.
it worked thank you for your valuable information
